Submissions to Westminster (Early Day MotionAn Early Day Motion (EDM) is a way for Members of Parliament to register their concern about issues. Once it has been raised by one or more MP, others can subscribe to it to show their agreement with its aims. The more MPs who subscribe, the more political weight the EDM carries in the UK Parliament. It is also a good indication of whether or not an individual MP is aware of, and cares about, different issues. click on READ MORE below). See also Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament. Collaborators in Northern Ireland include Age Concern Help the Aged NI EDM 617- submitted by David Taylor MP to the Westminster Parliament to emphasise the risks to an ageing population of food and fuel poverty and encourage the launch of an Older People's Food Charter

Taylor, David
That this House endorses article 25(1) of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and recognises access to sufficient, affordable, safe and nutritious food as a human right; acknowledges the growing evidence that older people's access to food is more easily compromised than other sectors of society; is aware of the growing risk of malnutrition in an increasingly ageing population due to a wide range of factors, including lack of transport, bad weather, fuel poverty, bereavement, social exclusion, medication, illness or carer illness; strongly supports voluntary sector efforts to engage older people in planning the content of an Older People's Food Charter; welcomes the launch of a UK Older People's Food Summit with the participation of older people, leading food retailers, the NHS, local government, regulators and others; encourages older people and carers to have their say in preparing the Food Charter; and calls upon the Government to consider older people's food access issues in the formulation of policy.
